Governor Albert Bryan Jr. issued this statement about the heinous murder of Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones.

“It is with deep sorrow and outrage that I address the tragic and senseless killing of Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones, a well-known and beloved figure in our community whose life was cut short by a brazen act of violence in broad daylight on the Christiansted Boardwalk.

Jordan brought joy to many through his comedic talent and vibrant spirit. He was more than just an entertainer - he was a son of the Virgin Islands, a friend to many, and a bright light whose humor uplifted us even in the most difficult times. His death is not just a loss to his loved ones, but to all of us who valued his presence and his voice in our culture.

“This midday shooting in a public space is a chilling reminder of the urgent need to confront and uproot the culture of violence that continues to harm our communities. I have spoken with Police Commissioner Mario Brooks, and I want to commend the Virgin Islands Police Department for their swift action in apprehending the suspect in connection with this tragic incident.

While the investigation continues, this development reflects the dedication and professionalism of our law enforcement officers who are working tirelessly to deliver

justice. I encourage anyone who may have additional information - no matter how minor it may seem - to come forward and assist VIPD in their efforts.

“To Jordan’s family, friends, and fans, I extend my heartfelt condolences. We mourn with you. And as a Territory, we must unite not only in grief, but in purpose - to ensure that the violence that claimed Jordan’s life does not go unanswered.

May his memory inspire us to build a safer, stronger Virgin Islands for all.”
