St. Croix - The Virgin Islands Bar Foundation recently held its annual Tennis Tournament, co-sponsored by the Virgin Islands Bar Association at the Carambola Clay Courts, drawing a strong turnout for a weekend of fun, friendly competition, and community impact.

The Tennis Tournament championed by Coach Kevin Motta and Chairperson Trudy Fenster raised funds for High School and College students.

The matchups were exciting and highly competitive while the main aim of the competitions was to support vital programs that shape the future of the Virgin Islands legal community. Net proceeds go to High School Moot Court competitions that develop advocacy skills and confidence in aspiring young attorneys, as well as law students who commit to returning to the Territory to practice law for a minimum of two years.

The School Moot Court competition showcases the talents of the Territory’s students in the areas of public speaking, advocacy and legal analysis. The program is designed to give students a basic understanding of United States and Virgin Islands government and civics as well as provide students with insight into our judicial system.

The Virgin Islands Bar Foundation wishes to congratulate all the players for their outstanding sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Special recognition goes to the following winners of the tournaments:

  • Women’s A Doubles - Lori Highfield & Zandra Ramtahal

  • Women’s B Doubles - Lee Rohn & Natalie Nelson Tang How

  • Mixed A Doubles - Trudy Fenster & Junior Bannis

  • Mixed B Doubles - Joel Mahepath & Lisa Adams-Mahepath

  • Men’s Mixed Singles A - Evan Holvoet

  • Men’s Doubles A - Junior Bannis & Evan Holvoet

  • Men’s Doubles B - Packy Gilbert & Brian Daily

Note: During the Tournament, the St. Croix Times is happy to report that although there were a few complaints about poor line calls, no actual lawsuits were filed.
