Kmart Sunny Isles to Close

St. Croix - In a move that is no surprise to industry insiders, considering Kmart’s bankruptcy filing in recent years - closing all but a few stores in the States - and their closing of their St. Croix store in the Sunshine Mall, Transformco, LLC, owners of the Kmart in Sunny Isles, issued the following notice on their website on May 9, 2025:

Notice of store closing  - Kmart Unit #3972 - SPACE 1 Sunny Isles Shopping Ctr, St. Croix

Please be advised that Transform KM LLC (Kmart or Company) will permanently cease its entire operations at and close the Kmart store #3972…due to the Company’s decision to not renew the lease for the property. 

• The total number of employees who will be terminated as of that date is approximately ninety-six (96) Hourly Associates. Employment will terminate on 8/8/25. There are no applicable bumping or transfer rights.

• Pursuant to the PCA, you may be eligible for severance if you have worked for the Company for at least  one year. Eligible associates will receive one week of severance pay for each year of service. For any month over a year, severance pay will be prorated accordingly…The exact severance amount will be recalculated as of the termination date.

• The Company has no other locations in St. Croix and therefore there are no openings for transfer. If you are interested in continuing your employment, Kmart has opportunities at our St. Thomas locations.
