Caracas - The U.S. has captured Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife after launching a “successful large-scale strike against Venezuela,” early Saturday morning, President Donald Trump has confirmed.
“Maduro has been flown out of the country,” said the U.S. President.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio anticipates no further action against Venezuela and stated that President Maduro will “stand trial on criminal charges in the U.S.”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi states that Maduro and his wife have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Maduro has been charged with “Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.”
“They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” Ms. Bondi added, but did not mention that his wife had been charged with any crimes. “A huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.”
Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising over the Venezuelan capital of Caracas along with a large fireball in the sky.
Trump said the operation was carried out in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement and was carried out by the Army’s Delta Force after the CIA identified the Venezuelan leader’s precise location. Delta Force is an elite special operations group of soldiers trained in secret counterterrorism operations and hostage rescue.
President Trump celebrated the success of the mission to capture Maduro, who the U.S. has considered the head of a foreign terrorist organization since a November 2025 designation.
“A lot of good planning and a lot of great, great troops and great people,” Trump stated. “It was a brilliant operation, actually.”
When asked whether he had sought congressional authorization for the operation or what would come next for Venezuela, Trump said he would address those matters in an upcoming news conference.
