Hollyweird - Don’t believe everything you read on the internet! Two of the biggest pop stars of the era have reportedly ended their long-standing “rumored” two-decade feud marked by Rihanna signaling a new chapter in the relationship via the 2026 Met Gala at which she attended Beyonce and Jay-Z’s afterparty following the event. The conciliatory move, finally put to bed years of internet fueled speculation regarding a rivalry between the two International Superstars.

Rihanna has previously urged the public to stop pitting successful Black women against each other, dismissing the narrative of a feud. The rumored tension often centered on the timing of album releases, such as Rhianna’s Anti and Beyonce’s Lemonade, and their shared connection to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation.

While social media and traditional media outlets often highlighted a “cold war” or “frenemy,” between the two iconic songbirds, the prestigious Met Gala meeting of the two with their respective partners, Jay-Z and A$AP Rocky has decidedly shown the world that they are as close as two loving sisters.

Reports claim the feud began when Rihanna was signed to Jay-Z’s record label, Roc Nation. Since then, there have been all sorts of rumors flying around the industry, fueled by a former Rihanna employee who  claimed that the Barbados-born sensation was having an affair with Jay-Z in order to “have a hit record” in 2005. The employee later admitted he was lying, claiming it was a PR stunt “out of desperation” adding that it was “reckless.”

Yet, speculation resurfaced on the internet again in 2016 surrounding album releases and Grammy snubs, particularly after Rihanna “liked” an Instagram post criticizing the Grammys for not nominating her album Anti for major awards.

Fast forward to 2026, while walking the famous red carpet after the Met Gala, Rihanna was asked about her plans for after the event.

“We’re going to the Beyonce and Jay-Z afterparty,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. The singer then joked, “Are you kidding? There’s only one afterparty.”

In days past, Rihanna directly addressed claims of a feud between herself and the Cowboy Carter star, telling Vogue: “Here’s the deal. The internet just gets so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive, something that’s a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only be me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.”

A source familiar with the scene said Rihanna, 38, and Beyonce, 44, who have spent much of the past 20 years dominating popular music, were warm and relaxed as they attended the afterparty following fashion’s biggest night. “They spent part of the evening socializing together…People in the room were definitely aware of the history and the rumors, but seeing them together put an end to all the speculation.”

A music industry source claimed much of the supposed feud had always been amplified by fans and internet culture, eager to pit two Black women against each other.

“There has always been an enormous fascination with the idea of Beyonce and Rihanna competing for the same crown. In reality, they occupied different lanes creatively, but the internet turned every release, award, and public appearance into evidence of a battle,” the source said.

Beyonce has won a total of 35 Grammy Awards out of 99 nominations. She holds the record for both the most Grammy Awards won by any artist in history and the most nominations of all time. Rihanna has won 9 Grammy Awards out of 33 nominations.

Beyonce and Rihanna are two of the most influential global music, fashion, and business icons in modern history. Both women started their careers as teenagers, dominate pop and R&B charts, hold massive billion-dollar entrepreneurial empires, and remain fiercely dedicated to female empowerment.
