STX Senate Candidate Raymond T. James Esq. CALLS FOR COMPLETION OF CHRISTIANSTED BOARDWALK TO GALLOWS BAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mr. JAMES CALLS FOR COMPLETION OF CHRISTIANSTED BOARDWALK TO GALLOWS BAY
Christiansted, St. Croix — October 10, 2026
Raymond T. James, Esq., Republican candidate for the Senate in the District of St. Croix, calls for a renewed public commitment to complete the Christiansted waterfront boardwalk around Fort Christiansvaern and toward Gallows Bay, while repairing deteriorated docks, ramps and other waterfront facilities.
The boardwalk is among Christiansted’s most valuable public spaces. Completing the connection would create a more continuous waterfront experience for residents and visitors, strengthen small businesses, and help make our historic town an even greater Caribbean attraction.
Mr. James recognizes the important contributions of former Lieutenant Governors G. Luz James and Vargrave Richards to the development and concept of the Christiansted boardwalk. Their vision deserves recognition and continued public attention. The next step is to complete that vision for future generations.
Because the proposed extension approaches the Christiansted National Historic Site, Mr. James urges the Government of the Virgin Islands, National Park Service, Virgin Islands Port Authority, waterfront stakeholders and the public to meet and identify a responsible path forward. Any concerns involving historic preservation, environmental protection, shoreline access, safety or permitting should be openly identified and addressed. The precise reasons for any reported National Park Service reluctance should be clarified rather than assumed.
Mr. James also calls for an inventory of damaged or inaccessible docks and ramps along the waterfront, a timetable for repairs, and a clear assignment of responsibility. Where private owners cannot act, government should evaluate lawful ways to facilitate essential improvements in the public interest.
‘Christiansted is our town, and its waterfront is part of our history and our future. We should not allow a promising public improvement to remain unfinished when cooperation and careful planning can move it forward,’ Mr. James said.
About Raymond T. James, Esq. James is a former Assistant Attorney General and former chairman of the GERS Board, a farmer and small-business owner, and a graduate of Howard University School of Law. He is married to Lystra Roland James, a longtime educator.
