St. Croix - All great things must come to an end. And this week’s Art Thursday marks the end of another great season for the ultra-popular Christiansted art gallery walk. What an artistic blast it has been this season to escape the day-to-day world and enter a scene filled with beauty and creativity. All the wonderful art, the fantastic jewelry, the cool people you meet along the way, it certainly has been a breath of fresh creative air.
But ‘parting is such sweet sorrow,’ and after this Thursday, May 21, 2026, it will all be gone until the season starts up again this November. Gone will be all those carefree strolls through the art district, those groovy little spontaneous chats with the locals, the nifty stopovers for a nip of cheese and crackers and a sip of wine. Gone will be that absolute Crucian panache that sweeps you up into those Art Thursday nights and whisks you away into a world of artists and craftspeople extraordinaire!
Ah yes, wait until next season may very well be your battle cry. That is unless you take advantage of this last Art Thursday date and take a deep long look at the art and jewelry treasures that will be on display along Gallery Row. Then you can enjoy the last moments of the season by taking home that wonderful St. Croix Hook Bracelet or the latest stunning work of art by Therese Trudeau at her Maufe Gallery which is now located at Crucian Cafe on Strand Street.
In the heart of Christiansted Town and now being presented on the walls of the new Crucian Cafe (next to Crucian Gold) are the powerful works of art created by Therese Trudeau and other talented artists from around St. Croix and the Caribbean Diaspora. Maufe Gallery opened in their original space at Crucian Gold in November 2005 with the support of Therese’s husband and their two children. Therese is extremely proud to show her own works of art as well as other fellow artists. Her dedication to her art and her appreciation of other artists has signaled her as an active participant in the St. Croix artist community.
Therese’s paintings capture bold colors and beautiful details. Her works, which are also displayed at CMCArts, are breathtaking in their originality of vision, and vibrate loudly with the wonderful colors of the Caribbean.
Be sure to check out the Cafe/Gallery for upcoming sip&paint events and fun workshops!
Born on the shores of St. Croix, Sonya’s Fine Island Jewelry began with a single handcrafted bracelet and a deep love for island life. Sonya’s St. Croix Hook Bracelet is the original Hook Bracelet. Located on Company Street since 1964, an introduction to the hand-wrought jewelry at Sonya’s begins with the pleasantly inexpensive hook bracelet which is often imitated, but never duplicated. All Sonya’s designs are crafted in sterling silver, 14 & 18 karat gold. They create bracelets, rings, earrings, and pendants. Rooted in tradition, inspired by the sea - Sonya’s has been sharing the spirit of St. Croix through timeless jewelry for generations. This St. Croix institution has a loyal customer base that continues to vote their jewelry #1 in the Virgin Islands.
So feel free to come on down to the historic old town of Christiansted and wander aimlessly around Art Gallery Row.
