St. Croix - Well known St. Croix businessman and perennial Senatorial candidate Michael Springer was found dead at his home in Estate Mahogany on St. Croix this afternoon, December 14, 2025.

The cause of his death remains uncertain pending the medical examiner’s report, but police have stated there was no evidence of foul play.

At approximately 12:50 pm, VIPD received a report of a non-responsive male in Estate Mahogany, Christiansted. Family members at the scene identified the deceased as Michael Springer, 50 years old. The cause of death has yet to be determined. An investigation is ongoing.

Mr. Springer was known on election ballots across the Territory as he had run for Senator in the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature on numerous occasions, without ever succeeding in being elected. He ran as a Democrat except for his last run in 2024 where he ran as an Independent.

Mr. Springer was a dyed-in-the-wool lover of his island of St. Croix and a true believer he could make the USVI a better place by getting elected to the Senate.

Mr. Springer was also a well known restaurateur, having owned and operated several successful establishments over the years. The latest of which was a fast food/bar across from Plaza Extra East which displayed a huge photo of Al Pacino’s Scarface from the movie of the same name. When asked why he placed such a sign there while he was running for office, he replied, in his rather characteristic, off-the-cuff way:

“Because I like Al Pacino in the role.”

The VIPD has not released any additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr. Springer’s death. The investigation remains active pending the medical examiner’s determination as to the exact cause of death.
