Obama Presidential Center Opens in Chicago

Chicago, IL - The Barack Obama Presidential Center explores the promise and power of democracy through the legacy of President Obama and his wife Michelle Obama. The Center includes a museum, community and conference facilities, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, and the nonprofit Obama Foundation.
The Center opened on Juneteenth 2026 on Chicago’s South Side, to commemorate the Presidency of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Also included in the Center is a community athletic field laid out within a broad expanse of landscaped public park, gardens and a playground.
The Center’s work includes digitizing the Barack Obama Presidential Library with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to create the first fully digitized Presidential Library.
The Obama Presidential Center Museum includes exhibits of memorabilia from the Obamas’ time in the White House, stories of iconic moments from the President’s Administration, and interactive activities for visitors of all ages and abilities. The Forum Room is a space to learn and share ideas about democracy in action, attend a show at the Auditorium, record a podcast in the Media Suite, or take a study break with friends in one of the adjoining rooms.
The Center is located on a 19.3 acre campus in Jackson Park, in the area where Mr. Obama began his early years as a community organizer. His rise through the political ranks took him through the Illinois Senate (1996-2004), the U.S. Senate (2004-2008) until his nomination by the Democratic Party for President in 2008, where he chose Joe Biden as his running mate and defeated Republican nominee John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin.
Mr. Obama became the first African American President, serving two terms from 2009 to 2017. He was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for efforts in international diplomacy. Mr. Obama remains politically active, campaigning for candidates in American elections and weighing in on important issues of the day that are dear to the hearts of Americans.
