St. Croix - The only Republican Senatorial Candidate for the District of St. Croix in the 2026 November election, fully agrees with the USVI Democratic Governor Albert Bryan Jr.’s recent statement that the restart of the refinery on St. Croix is beneficial to both the United States and the Virgin Islands.
“The war in Iran has exposed our small island economy to increased gasoline prices along with increases in prices for many other everyday household goods. The current situation leaves Virgin Islanders with less disposable income to spend and in turn weakens our gross receipts tax base. However, it is my opinion that a targeted search for a strategic partnership with a private investor in the St. Croix Refinery, will signal to the federal government that the U.S. Virgin Islands is firmly committed to a restart of the St. Croix Refinery and will ultimately bring about the discovery of additional needed funds. Nevertheless, this alliance should not be undertaken without a firm understanding of the necessity of safeguards for the people of the Virgin Islands.”
