USVI - For a visual beginner yoga sequence, start with a foundational routine that links breath to movement. A simple, 15-minute beginner sequence includes the following foundational asanas:
Child’s Pose (Balasana) - 5 breaths. Kneel, sit on your heels, and stretch your arms forward on the mat.
Cat-Cow Pose (Marjariasana-Bitilasana) - 5-8 rounds. On all fours, alternate between arching and rounding your spine while breathing deeply.
Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) - 3-5 breaths. Form an inverted V with your body, pressing hands into the mat.
Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) - 3 breaths per side. Step your feet wide, bend your front knee, and extend your arms parallel to the floor.
Corpse Pose (Savasana) - 3-5 minutes. Lie flat on your back, arms relaxed by your sides, to integrate the practice.
Yoga combines physical postures, mindful breathing, and meditation to improve your overall well-being. It builds strength, increases flexibility, and promotes cardiovascular health. Mentally, it reduces stress and anxiety by lowering stress hormones and decreasing body-wide inflammation. The benefits of a regular practice touch on nearly every aspect of physical and mental health.
