St. Croix - Within hours of 38-year old Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones murder in a bar off the Christiansted Boardwalk on June 5, 2025, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD), in a joint effort between the Major Crime Unit and the Juvenile Investigation Bureau, made the arrest of a 15-year old suspect who has since been identified as Angelo Javier Carmona.
On June 25, 2025, there was a Transfer Hearing at the Family Court Division at which time Mr. Carmona was bound over to the Criminal Division to be treated as an adult.
On June 27, 2025, Mr. Carmona was arrested by the Major Crime Unit and charged as an adult with the following charges:
Murder in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in theThird Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Robbery in the First Degree, Unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, Possession of ammunition.
Mr. Carmona’s bail was set at $500,000. He was booked and unable to post bail and transported to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility, where he was remanded pending his Advice of Rights Hearing on Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Superior Court.
According to an eyewitness account, who would rather remain anonymous, Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones was sitting at a bar off the Boardwalk, where he worked, and was in fact working on that day, with a friend sitting alongside him. Mr. Carmona was lurking in the passageway near Shupe’s bathrooms and moved quickly to apparently confront Dutty Heart over a dispute involving a ‘gold’ chain necklace. Mr. Carmona, allegedly, began to fire directly into the face of Dutty Heart. Dutty’s friend stepped in to try and help and was also shot, whereby he sustained non life-threatening injuries. Mr. Carmona ripped the chain from Dutty Heart’s neck and ran off down the Boardwalk.
Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones succumbed to his injuries at Juan F. Luis Hospital.
Hours after the midday shooting the VIPD announced they had arrested a 15-year old who was remanded to the Youth Rehabilitation Center pending a court hearing.
A memorial in honor of Dutty Heart, requested by his family and friends, is scheduled at the close of this year’s July 4th Fireworks display hosted by Our Town Frederiksted (OTF), and produced by VI Pyro LLC. A one minute farewell tribute after the main fireworks show will take place in Dutty Heart’s honor.
Dutty, born and raised in Frederiksted, and having assisted in previous VI Pyro fireworks shows, will receive his final goodbyes when VI Pyro launches the largest shell in their inventory, with Dutty Heart’s ashes attached.
“As the shell bursts high above the Caribbean Sea, Dutty Heart’s remains will be spread over the waters that shaped his childhood, serving as a final and fitting goodbye,” VI Pyro stated in a press release.
The July 4th celebration is free and open to the public on the Frederiksted oceanfront.
