16-Year-Old Boy Apparent Suicide in Lorraine Village

St. Croix - A 16-year old boy was found hanged to death, in what appears to be a suicide, inside a residence in Lorraine Village Apartments, Estate Grove Place, St. Croix.   

VIPD identified the teenager as Jathan Giffard, after his mother found him unresponsive hanging inside an apartment residence on Thursday evening, September 24, 2026.

An emergency call was received by 911 Emergency Call Center just before 6 pm from a woman who reported finding her son unresponsive and not breathing inside a residence in the apartment complex. VIPD Officers and V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and confirmed the teenager was unresponsive.

VIPD emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death currently remain under investigation and the manner of death will be officially determined following examination by the Medical Examiner. 

No additional information surrounding Jathan Giffard’s tragic death was available. The VIPD investigation remains active.
