St. Thomas - A reckless car crash on St. Thomas’ Veterans Drive in the early morning hours of Christmas Day caused the death of a pedestrian and the driver of the vehicle.

VIPD reported that the car was apparently speeding when traveling westbound on Veterans Drive when it lost control in the vicinity of Rue de St. Barthelemy, and ran up on the curb, continuing along the sidewalk where it struck a pedestrian who was walking on the south side of the roadway. According to the police account, the vehicle then drove off the sidewalk and came to a full stop facing southeast in the westbound lane.

Both the driver of the vehicle and the pedestrian sustained critical injuries and after Emergency Responders performed CPR on both victims, who were lying in the roadway, they were both pronounced dead. The identities of the two victims have not been released. Autopsies are pending to determine whether drinking or drugs impaired the driver’s judgement.
