CIB Arrests Male for Galleon House Murder

St. Thomas - The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) launched an investigation into the murder of Ms. Maireni Heredia Tiburico. It was determined that she was shot and killed by her estranged husband, 54-year old Tizoni A. Mahoney. Mr. Mahoney was placed under arrest and charged with Murder in the First Degree pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.

The arrest follows several reported domestic abuse incidents perpetrated on Ms. Tiburico by Mr. Mahoney. Court documents describe one incident where Mr. Mahoney allegedly held Ms. Tiburico at gunpoint in a parked car, demanding she confess to infidelity. She told investigators she feared for her life and had jumped from his vehicle near the airport entrance to escape from his threats. 

The couple were married in June 2025. 

Recapping the murder at the Galleon House: 

On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 11:43 pm, the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of an unresponsive female at the Galleon House Hotel, St. Thomas. 

Responding officers traveled to the area of the Galleon House and discovered a female who had sustained at least one gunshot wound to her upper body. 

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived at the scene and made contact with the unresponsive Hispanic female and concluded that at about 12:26 pm she did not exhibit any vital signs. The female was identified by next of kin as 42-year old Maireni Heredia Tiburcio.
