A bold and violent robbery occurred in downtown Christiansted Thursday afternoon just after midday at the HAA Jewelers, a new shop, located on Strand Street.
According to the V.I. Police Department (VIPD), a male attendant at the store was robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects both dressed in dark clothing. One of the suspects allegedly pistol-whipped (smashed him with a gun) the victim before both individuals fled the store on foot, heading down Strand Street towards the Government Parking Lot.
The St. Croix Times spoke to the victim who was hit in the face but fortunately did not sustain any serious injury. The robbers absconded with only a couple of pieces of jewelry that did not appear to have much value.
“I was in the store trying to make a living, when they came in and put a gun to my face,” the victim, who is the owner of the store, stated. “Right now I am recovering from it all. I really don’t feel like working anymore.”
The VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is actively investigating the case. Authorities urge anyone who may have information or witnessed the incident or the fleeing pair of robbers to contact 911, the CIB Tipline at 340-778-4950 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
