**The report has been updated as new information was obtained by VIPD.
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, at around 9:42 pm, a female guest at the Carambola Beach Resort on the island’s far northwest side, reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center that she had been physically assaulted in her hotel room.
A Criminal Investigation Bureau Detective assigned to the case conducted an investigation that revealed the suspect, Matthew Gregg, physically assaulted his wife, leaving visible injuries to her face and neck area, in an alleged Domestic Violence incident. The violent incident was apparently brought on by Mr. Gregg's wife accusing her husband, Mr. Matthew Gregg, of having an extra-marital affair.
Mr. Gregg, 50, who lives off-island with his wife, was arrested, processed and booked.
The couple were apparently on St. Croix looking to purchase a home with a local realtor.
Mr. Gregg was charged with Assault Second DV. No bail was set in the matter as per the Domestic Violence law.
Mr. Gregg was then transported and remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing set for April 21, 2026, at the Superior Court.
