Hollywood - Esteemed Journalist and TV Commentator Gayle King decided to take the high road after President Donald Trump made disparaging comments about her in social media. The longtime “CBS Mornings” host commented on his remarks about her career being over.
“I’m sorry he feels that way, that he’s not a fan of my journalism,” she responded to the President’s latest rant about her in his Truth Social post. “I like my job and will continue to do a good job.”
She added that the ire she caught from President Trump put her in the same category as Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Rosie O’Donnell, and Stephen Colbert, all entertainers who the President has severely criticized over the years.
The scuffle broke out after the President took to Truth Social recently to blast Ms. King as he responded to a New York Post article claiming “CBS Mornings” may face an uncertain future amid parent company Paramount’s merger with Skydance Media.
“Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP,” he wrote in a post to Truth Social. “She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!”
The President’s comments follow a major win for his Administration. In late July, Paramount settled a lawsuit with Trump over a claim of deceptive editing he brought following a “60 Minutes” interview with his then political rival Kamala Harris. In the settlement, the entertainment giant agreed to pay $16 million toward Trump’s future Presidential Library.
The settlement came as Paramount eagerly awaited approval on a $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media, which required approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, which falls under the Trump Administration’s jurisdiction. The merger has since been approved, a move some critics called a quid pro quo.
Speculation about what Paramount’s content will look like under the merger also began to swirl following the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, where Colbert frequently critiques Trump’s White House. Although Paramount stated their decision to pull the plug was purely financial, voices from in and outside the industry argued it was a sign of political acquiescence as the White House cracks down on dissenting voices.
