Leh We Talk Menopause- the Cheeky_Geeky Way: Leh we just start here.

We’re not doing the menopause version you read about in some fancy magazine, and certainly not the weird TikTok version with the promise that a pill will fix everything. We’re doing real, juicy, menopause talk — the kind that feels like melee you want to tell your cousin. We’re going to be real- like when you’re in the grocery line and somebody says "girl, you sweating like me" and you both just look at each other and laugh because you already know what that is. And it’s not just the island heat.

But before we start- let me introduce myself. I'm LaVaughn, a Crucian girl, from West, but don’t hold that against me if you’re not. When I have these “conversations” with you, it’s always from a place of home. And wherever you are reading this, I hope you feel the warmth.

I’m the founder of Cheeky_Geeky Menopause, a business I built with all of you in mind. It’s evidence - based (so no old wives’ tales), with a dash of sass. It’s to educate and empower all of us- so we know exactly what’s happening in our bodies, and we can advocate for ourselves. Education alone is not transformation, so I urge everyone to have a plan- a strategy to navigate this menopause journey. Hopefully, the conversations here will help you do just that. We can’t be out here just “winging it”.

Every week on Leh We Talk Menopause, we’ll have real talk, but serious talk too- mostly about all the things that were never properly explained. What our mothers and aunties never had the words for, because the words were never handed to them either. We'll talk about the hormones, symptoms, and the stuff that keeps happening long after the hot flashes calm down.

We'll talk about why our bodies go through this differently than what you'll read in a magazine written for somebody else. We'll talk about food, sleep, relationships, stress, sex- yea that too!

Here's a taste of what's coming:

We’re going to talk about why women who look like us go through this differently than what the research usually assumes — Afro-Caribbean women reach menopause earlier than the global average, and the symptoms stick around longer too. That's not a feeling. That's the data. And once you understand why, a lot of things about your own experience are going to make a lot more sense.

We're going to talk about your bones — and I mean really talk about them, because the research says a woman can lose up to 20% of her bone density in the five to seven years after menopause, and that's exactly why one in two women over 50 end up breaking a bone because of it. Most of us find that out well after forty-five. I'd rather you know it now, while there's still time to do something about it.

We're going to talk about your heart, because the American Heart Association has come right out and said that the shift into postmenopause is a period of significantly higher cardiovascular risk — in a disease that's already the number one thing killing women. Not eventually. While you're sitting here reading this, feeling fine.

And we're going to talk about the thing hardly anyone says out loud — the genitourinary stuff, the dryness, the urgency, the infections that keep coming back. Somewhere between a quarter and the majority of postmenopausal women deal with this, and only about half of them ever say a word to a doctor about it. We're going to fix that. Starting with you and me, right here.

That's just a taste. We've got weeks and weeks of this ahead of us — the hormones actually driving all of it, what to eat, how to move, how to sleep again, how to walk into a doctor's appointment and actually be heard. I'm not rushing through any of it, and I'm not watering any of it down either.

Leh We Talk Menopause because it’s time that we do it- from a place of science and sass. I hope you’ll join me each week. Next week, we're starting right at the beginning with the phases because too many think “the menopause” is 20 years. It’s NOT.
