Murder Suspect Detained Trying to Flee Territory

St. Thomas - Five days after J’Niya Rambaran was gunned down on Veterans drive in St. Thomas, VIPD announced they have detained Kevin Warrell, 21, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Cyril E. King Airport as he was trying to flee the Territory and board a flight to the U.S. mainland.
Mr. Warrell was identified as a suspect after Detectives reviewed information received during the investigation along with surveillance footage.
On Saturday, investigators learned, via a tip from the community, that Mr. Warrell was at Cyril E. King Airport and preparing to flee the Territory. Detectives responded by quickly moving on the airport and detaining Mr. Warrell. He was then transported to the Richard N. Callwood Command.
Mr. Warrell was charged with First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Murder, First-Degree Assault, and Possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Bail was set at $1 million. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
J’Niya Rambaran, 21, was murdered in the early morning hours of September 28, 2026, on Veterans Drive in St. Thomas.
