St. Croix - A police officer answering a call at Oriental Bank in Estate Diamond was assaulted by a man who was seated in a wheelchair.

On May 4, 2026, at around 4:00 pm, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched a unit to Oriental Bank, across from the old Kmart. regarding an individual causing a disturbance.

The responding officer arrived on the scene and contacted the suspect, Warren Freeman, and ordered him to leave the premises. He refused to do so. While the officer was speaking with another individual, Mr. Freeman rose from his wheelchair and struck the officer in the face with a metal hand crutch, causing an open laceration to the officer’s face.

Warren Freeman, 56, was placed under arrest. He was transported to Wilbur Francis Command, where he was processed and refused to be booked for Assault Third, Aggravated Assault and Battery, Disturbance of the Peace, and Interfering with an Officer discharging his duties.

Unable to post his $25,000 bail, he was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
