St. Croix - ShotSpotter detected around 30 rounds fired in the vicinity of Hospital Street in Frederiksted early Wednesday morning, sometime after 9:30 am, December 31, 2025, as residents also reported hearing numerous gunshots ringing out in the area.
According to information from the 911 Emergency Call Center, hospital personnel in the Emergency Room at Juan F. Luis Hospital (JFL) reported that a gunshot victim had been brought to the hospital via private vehicle. The severity of the incident prompted a brief lockdown at the hospital as a precautionary measure. Hospital officials restricted visitation and access to the facility, but allowed emergency cases during the time period of the lockdown.
“For the safety of patients, staff, and visitors, visitation is restricted and access to the facility is limited to emergency cases only,” explained a JFL spokesperson.
During the preliminary phase of the investigation, detectives from VIPD reported that the victim, whose name has not yet been revealed, was uncooperative with the investigation. The VIPD and the Criminal Investigation Bureau are currently active in the investigation of the shooting incident. But insider sources contend it was gang related and not in connection to J’Ouvert Morning activities on the opposite side of town.
Anyone with any information pertinent to the shooting incident is urged to come forward and contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
