STX Man Arrested for Sexual Assault on Minor

St. Croix - On January 27, 2025, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a sexual assault on a minor female.
A member of the Criminal Investigation Bureau was assigned to the case, and information was disclosed that Lerone Smith Jr. sexually assaulted a minor female. After the completion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was signed by an Honorable Judge of the Superior Court on June 5, 2025.
Detectives attempted to make contact with Mr. Smith Jr. to no avail. Therefore, a wanted person poster was aired via social media, and news platforms to aid in the apprehension of Lerone Smith Jr.
On September 26, 2025, members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau apprehended 29-year old, Lerone Smith Jr. without incident. Mr. Smith Jr. was placed under arrest, booked and was unable to post his bail of $75,000.
He was charged with Rape Second Degree. He was remanded to the care and custody of the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing set for September 29, 2025, at the Superior Court.
