Suspect in STX Assault Case in Custody

St. Croix - On August 30, 2025, at approximately 11:44 am, an adult male was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital Emergency Room via ambulance. The victim reported to Officers that while he was asleep inside the old gym located upstairs from Subway in Golden Rock, he was assaulted by a male with a knife and a metal pipe. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained serious injuries to his arm. 

Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau in undergoing an investigation of the attack discovered that Alexander Mateo was identified as the suspect in the case. An All Points Bulletin (A.P.B.) was issued for his arrest. 

On September 18, 2025, 47-year old Alexander Mateo was present at the Wilbur Francis Command where he was advised of his Miranda Rights and agreed to give a statement. Mr. Mateo was placed under arrest, booked and he was unable to post bail which was set at $75,000. He was charged with Assault in the Third Degree. Mr. Mateo was transported to the John A. Bell Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility where he was remanded pending his Advice of Rights Hearing on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Superior Court.
