St. Croix - Two men in separate incidents seemed to feel it was easy money to sign and cash forged business checks. But they were both arrested.

On March 17, 2025, and April !0, 2025, the Economic Crimes Unit (ECU) initiated an investigation into two separate Obtaining Money by False Pretenses complaints filed by two different business owners. The investigation revealed that Darius George Jr. presented his United States Virgin Islands driver’s license to cash three counterfeit checks totaling $6,470.00. Each check had forged signatures of the business owners and was cashed at different banking institutions.

As a result of this investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 27-year old Darius George Jr. He was arrested on June 13, 2025.

On the same dates and for the same crimes an arrest warrant was issued for 27-year old Floyd Steevens who was arrested on June 14, 2025, for trying to cash five counterfeit checks totaling $10,220.00 from two different business owners. Each check had forged signatures of the business owners and was cashed at different banking institutions.

Each man was met on the above dates by Detectives from the ECU at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional facility where they were advised of their rights, served their arrest warrant and placed under arrest without incident; and subsequently transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Operating building where they were booked and charged with Obtaining Money by False Pretenses, Forgery, Uttering or Passing Forged or Counterfeited Matters, Passing or Possession of Forged Bills or Notes, Grand Larceny, Identity Theft, Participating in Fraud on Creditors, Access to Computer for Fraudulent Purposes, and Conspiracy.

Bail was set for both men at $20,000. Either man was able to post bail and were remanded to the John A. Bell Correction Facility pending their Advice of Rights Hearings scheduled for June 16, 2025 at the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
