VIPD Discovers Victim Shot Dead Under Vehicle on STT

St. Thomas - The 32nd homicide victim from the Territory was discovered shot dead beneath a vehicle on Hospital Ground in St. Thomas. The VIPD was alerted by Shot Spotter as to multiple gunshots in the Hospital Ground area on Monday night August 10, 2026.
When arriving on the scene and searching the surrounding area, the VIPD were unable to locate a victim or evidence that shots were fired. But approximately twelve hours later, late morning on Tuesday, a concerned citizen contacted 911 and reported seeing an unresponsive male lying on the street beneath a vehicle in the Hospital Ground area.
VIPD Officers responded once again to the scene and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his body beneath a vehicle. EMT arrived and determined the victim had no signs of life.
The deceased was identified by next of kin as 57-year old Pernell Slaven Jr.
Mr. Slaveen’s death marked the 14th homicide on St. Thomas.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
