San Juan, P.R. - The U.S. has ordered 10 F-35 Fighter Jets to be deployed to Puerto Rico, arriving next week, as the Trump Administration steps up its war on drug cartels. The planes are being sent to an airfield to conduct operations against designated narco-terrorist organizations, bolstering an already strong U.S. military presence in the Southern Caribbean.
The development comes just days after President Trump revealed the U.S. military had killed 11 people in a drug carrying boat off the coast of Venezuela. The President insisted those obliterated in the strike were members of the notorious Tren de Aragua (TDA) criminal gang.
“TDA is a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, operating under the control of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, responsible for mass murder, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and acts of violence and terror across the United States and Western Hemisphere,” President Trump stated after the attack.
President Trump has pledged to wage an all-out-war on groups he accuses of smuggling drugs into the United States.
The F-35 deployment adds to an earlier U.S. military buildup in the region, which already includes seven warships and a nuclear powered submarine.
