VIPD RELEASE-

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD)  announces the arrest of former officer Aisha Somersall following an investigation into the  reported theft of a gold chain during an arrest.

On February 14, 2025, the VIPD’s Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation into a  reported grand larceny involving a gold chain allegedly taken from an individual during an  arrest by VIPD officers.

The investigation established probable cause to believe that Somersall unlawfully took the  individual’s gold chain during the arrest. Based on the findings, an arrest warrant was  obtained through the Superior Court.

On September 13, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended Somersall  in the Seattle, Washington, area, where she was held pending extradition proceedings.

On October 14, 2026, Somersall surrendered to detectives assigned to the VIPD’s Economic  Crime Unit in St. Thomas. She was charged with Grand Larceny and Appropriating Lost  Property, booked and processed, and bail was set at $10,000.

Somersall was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending her Advice of  Rights hearing.

The Virgin Islands Police Department remains committed to investigating allegations of  criminal conduct and holding individuals accountable under the law, regardless of their  position or former affiliation with the Department.

As this matter proceeds through the judicial system, the charges against Somersall remain  allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
