      in Act of Robbery

St. Thomas - A robber who was apparently involved in a string of robberies was shot dead when he decided to tangle with and rob ‘the wrong guy.’

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:09 am, Patrol units traveled to a report of an armed robbery that took place on the east side of St. Thomas. Upon their arrival, a victim reported that he was robbed at gunpoint by several males dressed in all black and wearing face masks. The victim stated that one of the suspects approached him with a long rifle while the others carried handguns. The thieves proceeded to steal several items from the victim’s person. The suspects then entered a gray SUV and fled the area.

At approximately 2:30 am on that same day, in the Red Hook area of STT, VIPD received reports of a victim that was walking on the side of the road when a gray SUV pulled up alongside him and a male wearing all black with his face covered, who was armed with a long gun, approached him  and attempted to pull his gold chain off his neck.

At approximately the same time, the Shot Spotter Detection System detected multiple gunshots fired in the Red Hook area. Shortly thereafter, a concerned citizen called 911 and stated that a male had been shot in Red Hook. Patrol units were dispatched and when they arrived in Red Hook they discovered an unresponsive, Black male lying on the ground with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

An investigation revealed that the Black male was the same individual who robbed a victim earlier and exited the same gray SUV with a long rifle in his hand. This time he had apparently tangled with the wrong man. His intended victim, who he tried to rob of his gold chain, shot him dead.

Emergency Medical Technicians that had traveled to the scene pronounced the would-be robber dead. The identity of the Black male is currently unknown. The  Investigators handling the case are seeking to identify the male and contact his next of kin before they release his name to the public.

Anyone who has any information about this crime is urged to call 911 or the VIPD at 340-774-2211, or the Major Crimes Unit (WhatsApp) 340-642-8449. Or contact Crime Stoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
